AJ&D Chapelhow Achieve PAS 24:2022+A1:2024 Security Accreditation
AJD Chapelhow’s Secure Stormproof and Direct Glaze windows have successfully achieved
PAS 24:2022+A1:2024 accreditation following rigorous independent testing by Mila/Assa Abloy
at its UK testing facilities in July 2026.
Security is a priority for many homeowners, particularly those with rural properties or holiday lets. That's why we have enhanced our traditional timber Stormproof and Direct Glaze windows with additional security features, creating our new PAS24 accredited Secure range.
PAS 24 is a recognised UK security standard developed by the British Standards Institution (BSI). It sets stringent requirements for the enhanced security performance of external windows, ensuring they can withstand a series of demanding attack tests designed to simulate attempted break-ins.
This accreditation means our Secure features will now become standard on our Stormproof and Direct Glaze windows, ensuring every customer benefits from enhanced security as standard, together with the confidence that their windows have met one of the UK's most rigorous security testing standards.
In addition to our recent PAS 24:2022+A1:2024 certification (July 2026) for Stormproof and Direct Glaze windows, our manufacturing processes and products fully comply with EN 14351-1 (UKCA marking) and BS 644:2012.
All hardware, fixtures and fittings meet PAS 24 and/or Secured by Design requirements. Where applicable, glazing units conform to EN 356, EN 12150-2 and EN 14449. Preservatives, fillers, adhesives, paints, stains and oils meet current EU and UK regulatory requirements (data sheets available on request).
Our BFRC-tested casement windows achieve an A energy rating and sliding sash windows a B rating, with whole-window U-values of 1.4 W/m²K in hardwood and 1.3–1.4 W/m²K in softwood. Doorsets satisfy Requirement Q1 of Approved Document Q via Appendix B (bespoke timber secure doorsets). UKCA Declarations of Performance.
Declarations of Conformity to BS 644 and BS EN ISO 9001:2026 are available on request.

THE UK's FIRST WINDORFLEX WINDOW & DOOR CNC MACHINING CELL
We are pleased to announce the installation of the UK’s first SCM Windorflex window and door CNC machining cell. This cutting-edge technology from Italy’s SCM Group, based in Rimini, has transformed our manufacturing processes.
Expertly programmed by our own highly skilled craftspeople and their technical partners JoinerySoft, and utilising the finest Oertli custom tooling, the Windorflex can now automate many traditional manufacturing techniques.
The Windoflex efficiently reproduces windows and doors that once were highly labour intensive. The techniques and methods that once could only be delivered by hand, by experienced craftspeople, can now be reproduced at speed on this revolutionary machine.
The Windoflex - allied with other SCM machinery in the workshop - allows us to maintain exceptional standards whilst delivering improved turn-round times and more competitive pricing.
The introduction of this new technology also allows our traditional craftspeople more time to focus their unique talents on highly bespoke projects involving pieces that can only be handcrafted using methods and skills honed over decades. Allowing us to expand our handmade bespoke joinery services.
After over 60 years, we are proud to continue to be at the forefront of both modern woodworking technologies and traditional craft skills.
"SCM would like to thank AJ&D Chapelhow for their confidence in choosing the Windorflex. We are proud to contribute to the growth of a leading UK window and door manufacturer, supporting its commitment to ever more efficient, productive and innovative production - states Gabriele De Col, Scm Uk Managing Director - Our advanced technology is designed to improve the speed and accuracy of manufacturing processes, with a strong focus on sustainability, which is key to meeting the challenges of an ever-changing market. Being at AJ&D Chapelhow's side in this journey is a great honour for us".

Embracing Green Technologies
With an ongoing commitment to utilising green technologies and reducing their carbon footprint, AJ&D Chapelhow have announced the installation of an extensive solar solution from UK Farming Renewables.
The installation of over 160 solar panels stores the power produced from the panels in batteries located on site. This power is then released as needed and has resulted in a significant reduction in the company’s diesel usage.
General Manager, Helen Chapelhow Law said: “This is a major step forward in our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint and maximise the use of sustainable energy and materials during our manufacturing process."

Eden Business Man returns from retirement to save his firm
A BUSINESSMAN who returned from retirement to save his former firm when it was about to go into liquidation has been reflecting on a successful first year.
Alan James Chapelhow, established A. J. & D. Chapelhow Ltd., a general joinerery business, in 1961.
In 2015, with more than 54 successful years behind him and a workforce of more than 23 highly skilled staff, Alan felt the time was right to sell the business and retire at 76. However, it soon became clear that all was not well, and the promises made to the workforce and to Alan himself by the new owner were not all they seemed.

Why the oldest window frame material is the modern choice
Architects appreciate the look and feel of high quality materials, but are naturally attracted to innovative ideas, especially when they bring the promised of enhanced performance. So it’s interesting to see timber – the oldest of materials for window frames – enjoying something of a renaissance over the last few years. It’s not something that’s happened by chance, but the result of a determined effort by the industry to shake off earlier performance issues, while at the same time reinforcing its sustainability credentials
